BEDDRU - Beyond Reclusion: from trademarks to burlesque

  • Le Neuf Gallery 690 Chaussée de Waterloo 1180 Brussels Belgium (map)

The dynamics of humankind have been re-written by the unprecedented Covid-19 pandemic. BEDDRU returns to Le Neuf Gallery after exhibiting in the same space exactly when the pandemic hit us globally in March 2020. The last two years have been a unique learning opportunity for the artist to bring several of his creations painted during his "reclusion" in this new exhibition.

"BEYOND RECLUSION" represents an exciting opportunity for the art collector to navigate BEDDRU's artistic world between trademarks and burlesque artworks.

On the one hand, the painter’s trademarks are composed of escaped memories from his past spent in the South of Italy and the Greek heritage he grew up with. On the other hand, this unique exhibition shows BEDDRU’s versatility in different media, specifically some new burlesque artworks presented in exclusivity at Le Neuf Gallery.

The leading female figures of BEDDRU’s Enigma series bring puzzling messages to decipher and merge with the artist's childhood memories of Sicilian experiences in exotic markets. In his NATURART body of work, the beauty of the human body connects in its structural simplicity to the power of Nature, the mother of all our sensory experiences. In this way, the sea metaphorically performs the rite of baptism, cleansing our bodies and minds through purification and regeneration.

The magic of BEDDRU's vibrant colours makes the observer feel the warmth of the south and instantly uplifts our mood to a level of relaxation, happiness and serenity. The use of modern materials such as plexiglass is a conscious choice of the artist to create art forms to reflect his time. So, while the content re-emerges from the past, the form stays contemporary.

Among the new works, the exhibition displays a body called "LE ORKINE", part of the artist's production never shown to the public before. Le Neuf Gallery will showcase some artworks n canvas and watercolours on paper inspired by an unconventional muse named "Orka". BEDDRU pictures his muse as an excuse to reflect upon human behaviour aimed to find us space to fit in today’s society. The burlesque pieces contain important messages elucidating the reasons why we all feel “pressured” to keep up with expectations. This is undoubtedly an exhibition not to miss if collectors and art lovers need to lift their mood.
