Anouch Pasques

Anouch Pasques (° 1965) works as a costume designer and graphic illustrator.

Starting from her education at the fashion academy in Antwerp and theatre sciences in Ghent, she developed in her own graphic style in which she combines founding elements from classical antiquity, Japanese manga and the gaming industry, bringing them together in a special, almost fairy-like sensuality.

The contrasting black lines to portray eyes, lips and hair tips refer to Greek ancient culture. Her years of styling work for youth series and youth channel Ketnet (Flemish public television) add some freshness and joy.

Her female figures radiate a youthful love with particularly slender femininity, like contemporary goddesses. In their expressions we distinguish modern traits of "La Parisienne", the Minoan Lady. Where one might recognise in these fashionable frescos a certain “joie de vivre”, they are at the same time a very personal call for a kindlier society where emotions are allowed to be experienced, named and expressed.

Anouch works with different materials together in a fickle and spontaneous way, without knowing in advance what the final drawing will look like. She uses academic sketch paper, kraft paper and sometimes a classic Steinbach. She starts with the pencil, accentuates them with black marker, sometimes even leaving the original pencil lines. Colouring is applied with watercolour paint, pastel smears and coloured pencils, finishing with pastel chalk, felt-tip pen and transparent lacquer.
