Dirk Heveraet

Dirk Heveraet (°1954) works as an architect and artist in Linden (Belgium).

Dirk Heveraet uses a methodical approach in which both spontaneity and mathematically calculated order are present. His repetitive, complex, and large-format works are the witnesses of a rigorous exploration of abstraction in colour and the execution of a mathematical creative process. He plays with the ambiguity that arises when a delicate balance is sought between structure and chaos.

Colour is a central theme in Heveraet's work, referring to it as "light, depth and surface".  Deliberately, the artist limits his action to the rubber mat and the canvas or mould made paper on which he manually presses the paint. It results in a play of lines that refers to the visible and invisible light of our star and of the cosmic radiation of the energy-rich particles that gave birth to life in amino acids.

Control and intuition, structure and chaos, rigour and freedom meet in a creative universe, but certainly also in science and spirituality.
